Another aspect of the Chinese culture that is if of significant interest to me, would be that of the traditional Chinese wedding. This became of interest to me when I was getting my nails done this past summer in a Chinese nail salon, the owner had just gotten married and wanted me to see his wedding photographs. While looking at his photographs and listening to his stories, i learned of how unique Chinese weddings actually are and how they are filled with various symbolic customs, almost all leading to having good fortune. Some of the most interesting things i learned was that the primary color of a Chinese wedding is red, which ultimately signifies love and having good luck. When planning the date for the wedding, the bride and groom, along with their families, must select a lucky date, using various possibilities. On the wedding day, an important cultural practice is performing a tea ceremony, in which the bride and groom serve tea to the grooms family. He also told me that the brides will often wear at least 3 different wedding dress, which i thought was crazy! After looking at the beautiful photographs and after hearing all of his stories, i have learned that not only does a lot go into planning a Chinese wedding, but I also learned just how important having good luck is to the Chinese culture.

One specific Chinese cultural practice that is of great interest to me would be the practice of Feng Shui. What first got me interested in this practice was when a few years ago my Uncle opened up his own coffee shop and applied Feng Shui principles when decorating it. This practice seems interesting because of how it considers the flow of energy and its effects on surrounding spaces and objects. I also think it is very interesting how the Chinese culture believes that Feng Shui can bring them good luck, health, wealth, and many other good fortunes or prosperities. I have always wanted to be able to learn Feng Shui and learn how to apply Feng Shui principles in my own appartment/work area, i think it would be very interesting!
